In an odd turn of events, a now former IT director gave the passwords of the Cisco routers and switches he managed for San Francisco's Wide-Area-Network, after being jailed since July 13th (nice day to go in).

Was there a full moon that week, of July 13? After checking the moon phases, apparently the moon wasn't full till the 18th. Anyway, on July 23, after 10 full days in the clink, the Mayor met this man at the jail to get the passwords. I suppose that saved them some time from reinitailizing the IOS and reconfiguring. Those IOS files are a pain to setup. Its too bad they didn't have them backed up somewhere - then they could have hand coded a password into the config file and reuploaded to...Full Story

If you have an HP DV9000 laptop (mine is actually a DV9008nr), and you have trouble booting, I think there is a warranty repair being offered for this, but I'm not sure what the time limit is on this. I've had my laptop for about three years and its just starting to show alot of wear, and not boot up properly. Its definitely not a problem with the hard drive, because I can easily boot it when I plug it into my desktop system.
Here's what happens. I try the power button, most of the...Full Info

I had a paper I needed to contribute to for one of my University of Phoenix classes, but couldn't open the document, because it was in a docx type. My version of Microsoft Word (2003) was apparently not hip with what everyone else was using. Thankfully, and for the first time I remember, Microsoft has a compatibility pack for Office 2003 that allows it to upgrade its capabilities to 2007, without needing to buy an upgrade! I could not believe it!

Personally, I love Javascript and Ajax. I thought I would never ever, ever, get into doing ActionScript programming. I almost thought it was beneath me to do so, seeing all these Flash games being created with it - what a toy, right?
Think again - the sheer speed at which Flash player operates and can run ActionScript, puts it at the top of the list web development languages one should know. With the advent of Flex 3, ActionScript suddenly became a language that could be util...Full Info

The object-oriented code of ExtJS is a joy to work with, and the widgets keep
getting better, each year. ExtJS is poised to be considered a serious
contender with on going development and a growing fan base. Plus, its ease of use and consistent code base, make it a framework that any web programmer should be able to transition to, and appreciate. If you know anything about actionscript programming, ExtJS is a nice transition. If you're an OOP programmer, ExtJS will appeal to you, also....Full Info
If you ever have a client who has been blacklisted, after being infected with zombie emailers on his workstations, here is a tip to help get off the Comcast blacklist, after you've removed the offending virus or adware from the network.
If you're like me, sometimes you need to know what process is using which port. This capability is especially useful if you have several processes with the same name, but a different PID.
